Otok Krk – Videos from the 60s and 70s

These days I found a treasure on YouTube: films from the Yugoslav era, showing the construction of the bridge and the landscape as it looked back then… And the best part… the background music from the 60s and 70s…

The first film focuses on the construction of the bridge and the ferry connection from that time, but also includes footage of the island’s villages.

The second film is a TV documentary from the 60s. I do not know the exact release date, but it mentions that the airport already exists and that the bridge would be completed in 1973. In reality it was finished in 1978… Since the airport opened in 1970, the film must be from 1968, 1969 or 1970.

That was the route of the ferry back then. Perhaps you are wondering why it took such a long way… Well, it was the route where the bora could create little swell, and both landing points offered the best protection from the wind.
